Bananas for Better Moods

Many website false claim that bananas improve your mood because they contain Tryptophan.

Firstly this claim is "Over Exagerated" and here is why.

The Tryptophan molecule contained in bananas is too big to cross the blood brain barrier and get into your brain.

Whatever small amount of Tryptophan is able to do so via ingestion is not enough to write about and as you can see, the Tryptophan molecule is very different from the Banana molecule. see image below

And the answer is yes, but not for the above reason.

  1. Bananas release Fructose and Glucose which helps stabilize your blood sugar levels. This is a great way to start the day without over-dosing on sugary meals.
  2. Bananas have antioxidants which help your body resist being run down and tired.
  3. Bananas contain Potassium which helps relax your heart.
  4. 1 medium banana has approx 20% of your daily RDI of Vitamin B6 and if you do the research you will see that Vitamin B6 is great for healing nerve damage which in turn helps you relax a lot more.
  5. Bananas are a PRE-biotic which feed PRO-biotics which aids digestion. Again less stress. This also helps improve focus and memory.
  6. Half green bananas help calm upset stomachs.
  7. Two Bananas before exercising are an ideal way to exercise for longer. Even though bananas taste quite sweet when ripe - containing approx 14-15 grams of total sugar - they receive a "low" rating on the glycemic index (GI) value. GI measures the impact of a food on our blood sugar. This Low GI rating allows you to be sustained for longer without needing any "sugar fixes".

So please eat bananas for all of the great reasons and not for the misguided ones.
